Technologent Showcases Open Storage Expertise with Successful Series of Regional Seminars
LAKE FOREST, CA, June 8, 2009 - Technologent, a nationwide Solutions Integrator, is showcasing its expertise in Open Storage platforms through a series of educational, hands-on workshops. Open Storage, the new unified storage architecture promoted by Sun Microsystems, is based on industry-standard hardware and open source technologies. It offers an open storage architecture without vendor lock-in. At the core of the Open Storage platform are some of Sun’s well-known open source technologies and products such as Open Solaris and ZFS file systems, plus a number of third-party open source software products such as (popular backup software) Amanda.
Sun’s Open Storage platform offers unprecedented savings in cost for customers especially as they scale up their storage infrastructure. The savings can be between 75 and 90 percent compared to solutions from proprietary vendors,” said Marco Mohajer, Technologent’s Senior Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Professional Services. “In addition, there are no additional software license fees, it consumes four times less power and reduces break/fix calls.”
The value proposition that Sun and Technologent is offering is the savings on the extra licensing costs that come with proprietary solutions. Also, since the solution is built on open source stacks, customers need not buy support from one specific vendor. “The customer can choose to upgrade or build solutions on top of Open Storage platforms without necessarily buying from a certain vendor. Since there is no vendor lock-in they can take advantage of all the virtues of open source,” Mohajer explained.
Technologent offers a unique service to customers through its professional services division and an on-site solution architect to customize individual personalized customer workshops. “These workshops have received an overwhelmingly positive response from our customers,” explains Mohajer. “50 percent of those customers who attend a seminar schedule an on-site visit after the initial presentation.”
